Whitney Bates is a visual artist and educator based in Providence, Rhode Island.

Children view life events in a powerful way. Distortions, exaggerations and fantasies often result from youthful interpretations of lived experiences, creating memories that shape our understanding of ourselves in the world as we grow. Whitney's artwork examines the lives of individual characters, specifically women and children, who can often be vulnerable to life's circumstances. These images are formulated from personal experience, relationships, and stories told. It is her goal to foster understanding between herself and others and document perspectives of the human experience.
Whitney received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Alfred University in 2010 where she focused on printmaking and painting with a minor in Art Education. She received her Masters of Art in Art Education from Boston University with a focus in Art Leadership and Arts-Based Research in 2019. She currently teaches high school art in Rhode Island and freelances in graphic design and illustration.
